Ashlands Shield Generator: Fuel Consumption, Defense Radius, and Rain Protection

The Ashlands environment is plagued by continuous incendiary cinder rain, falling meteors, and hostile ballista fire that burns standard base construction in minutes. The Shield Generator projects an energy dome that intercepts all incoming aerial projectiles and weather hazards. Learn exact fuel burn rates, dome health pools, and layered base defense layouts.

Shield Generator mechanics and environmental protection in 0.221.12

In the Ashlands, unprotected wooden, stone, or tar structures suffer constant 2 to 5 fire damage ticks from the atmospheric cinder rain. Constructing a viable outpost or portal safehouse requires an active Shield Generator.

The generator emits a glowing blue force field dome that instantly vaporizes falling cinders, preventing base fire propagation and keeping crops (like Vineberry and Smoke Puff) safe from scorched earth decay.

  • Protects a 24-meter spherical radius from the generator center.
  • Intercepts 100% of atmospheric cinders, meteor fireballs, and ballista bolts.
  • Prevents structural fire spread within the dome perimeter.

Fuel efficiency and bone types

The Shield Generator accepts all skeletal bone remains and enemy trophies as fuel. Different bone qualities provide distinct burn durations:

Standard Skeleton Bones provide 2 minutes of passive dome maintenance per unit (40 minutes per full stack of 20). Charred Bones from Ashlands skeletons burn for 3 minutes each (60 minutes per stack), while boss trophies provide extensive high-density fuel reserves.

Kinetic impact absorption and overload recovery

When hostile projectiles (such as Charred Warlock fireballs or Fallen Valkyrie feathers) strike the dome, the shield absorbs the kinetic impact without transmitting damage to interior structures.

However, absorbing heavy combat damage accelerates fuel consumption. If fuel reaches 0 during a raid, the dome instantly collapses. Maintain automated chest hoppers with backup bone stacks next to the generator core.

  • Heavy siege impacts drain fuel equivalent to incoming damage points.
  • Dome recharges instantly upon inserting new bone fuel.
  • Generators can overlap their radii to create interlocking citadel defense networks.

Optimal generator placement and base defense layout

Place the Shield Generator on an elevated Black Marble pillar or central courtyard turret. Ensure the 24-meter dome perimeter extends at least 4 meters beyond your exterior defensive palisades so enemy projectiles detonate safely outside your walls.

Enclose the generator core with iron cage grates or grausten arches so ground-based Charred warriors cannot directly attack the machine housing.

Expedition checklist

  • Shield Core acquired from Dvergr fortresses or Mistlands Infested Mines.
  • 5 Copper, 5 Iron, and 1 Shield Core carried for generator construction.
  • Minimum two full stacks (40 units) of Skeleton or Charred Bones stored in fuel chest.
  • Elevated masonry pedestal built to maximize 24-meter hemispherical coverage.
  • Interlocking generator network planned for bases wider than 48 meters.
  • Portal hub and crop garden positioned entirely within the inner 18-meter safe zone.
