Valheim 1.0 Preparation Checklist
A complete pre-flight checklist to safeguard your saves, dedicated servers, and worlds ahead of major milestone updates.
1
1. Create Cold World Backups (.db & .fwl)
Before launching any 1.0 build, navigate to your save directory and manually copy both `.db` and `.fwl` files to an external folder.
Technical Note: Windows: %userprofile%/AppData/LocalLow/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local | Linux/Mac: ~/.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local
2
2. Strip Outdated BepInEx Plugins
Major game engine updates break binary mod hooks. Move your `BepInEx/plugins` folder to a temporary backup location before initial world loading.
Technical Note: Prevent world corruptions caused by missing custom prefabs or outdated inventory expansion mods.
3
3. Verify Dedicated Server Startup Scripts
Ensure your server host has updated `start_server.sh` or `start_server.bat` with the new crossplay parameters.
Technical Note: Add `-crossplay` only if accommodating Xbox or PlayStation players; leave disabled for pure PC low-latency connections.
4
4. Check Unexplored Terrain for World Generation
New biome features and dungeons will only generate in unexplored map chunks located at least 500 meters away from visited territory.
Technical Note: If your map is 100% explored, consider generating a fresh 1.0 world seed while transferring your gear and character.
