Fortress defense reconnaissance and defensive layout

Charred Fortresses in the Ashlands biome are heavily fortified monolithic Grausten citadels surrounded by spike trenches, automated magma ballistas, and continuous Charred Spawners.

Direct pickaxe attacks against exterior Grausten walls are ineffective. You must either breach the main reinforced gate with a Battering Ram or use Catapults to blast through ramparts and eliminate defenders before entering.

  • Magma Ballistas target players up to 45 meters away with high-velocity incendiary bolts.
  • Charred Spawners located on inner parapets continuously generate 1-star Charred Warriors, Marksmen, and Warlocks.
  • Central keep houses the Lord Reto miniboss or sealed chests containing Bell Fragments required for summoning the biome boss Fader.

Siege weapon engineering: Battering Ram vs Catapult

Deploying siege equipment requires establishing a protected forward construction outpost powered by a Shield Generator to deflect falling Ashlands cinder fire.

The Battering Ram requires 20 Ashwood, 10 Flametal Ingots, and 4 Mechanical Springs. It deals 300 Siege Blunt damage per swing against fortified gates, breaking standard gates in 6 to 8 impacts.

The Catapult requires 30 Ashwood, 15 Flametal Ingots, and 6 Mechanical Springs. Firing Explosive Payload barrels deals 250 Area of Effect Fire/Blunt damage, destroying top-tier wall ballistas and spawners from 70 meters range.

Breach and sweep combat protocol

Step 1: Destroy the two front-facing ballistas with Catapult explosive rounds or ice-infused bow arrows.

Step 2: Position the Battering Ram at the center gate under shield dome coverage, or catapult grausten rubble ramps to leap directly onto the parapet.

Step 3: Prioritize instant destruction of bone spawners using Staff of the Wild vines or Slayer greatsword sweeps.

Step 4: Engage the Charred Warlock with Frost Staff spells or Spirit-infused melee weapons to prevent resurrection cycles.

Loot extraction and fortress conversion

Inside the inner vault, loot 1 to 3 Bell Fragments, 5 to 10 Flametal Ingots, refined Gemstones (Iolite, Jade, Bloodstone), and rare Galdr crafting ingredients.

Once cleared, place a Workbench and Shield Generator inside the courtyard. The indestructible Grausten perimeter makes captured fortresses the safest forward bases in the Ashlands biome.
